wowza! you certainly have a way of penning your thoughts on life. i've often thought about that very thing, what do i take for granted that my ancestors would give their teeth to have? kind of puts in perspective how spoiled we are to live in this modern age with all our conveniences. makes me wonder though how much more industrious i'd be without all the modern "necessities" that we take for granted. i type this with a ceiling light over my head, a lamp on in the other room, a ceiling light on in the tv room with the tv on, my computer on, and the kids playing outside in the fresh air! makes me feel like a selfish energy pig.
gotta go and turn off some lights!
here's to hoping your power stays on and you are soon able to crawl out of your house and not burn up your furniture for warmth. :)
Take care!

Hi Alan,
I would love to have as much information as I can get on the descendants of the Moody families of Chatham Co, NC as far back as possible. I have put together my best guess on lines of the early (last 1700's through 1800's) Moody families. I am almost sure to have some mistakes. Hopefully as information is shared, I can begin to identify mistakes and correct them.

Deason Hunt (whose mother is Ozie Mae Moody Hunt descended from a Chatham Co NC Moody line)

Mr. Hunt--
My name is Allan Lane of Winter Garden, FL. I recently took a suit to be cleaned and found in the jacket pocket a letter you wrote to my Uncle, Ben Moody, then residing in Siler City, NC, in 2004 inquiring about possible family history. My Uncle gave me the letter since I have some interet in genealogy. I do not recall if he answered you or not. He is still living with wife Polly in a retirement home near Charlotte. If you would like, contact me at the above email address, and I will contact him and provide you such information as I can find. I do not know much about the Moody side of my family. My grandfather, Noah Moody, died about 1952 when I was about 5 years old. I know his father was Jasper Moody. I have some photos and military records on my grandfather, and a few other details. I would like to find out more about the Moody's. I remember my Mother (d. 1976) used to speak of a cousin Moody who was a minister in a church in Dallas. Don't know if that has anything to do with your lineage or not.
Feel free to contact me by email or phone, 407-654-8187. Best wishes, Al Lane.

Thanks for the recommendation; almost all my family lines are from the South, as well. I had a good book on the post-Civil War South that I would recommend; unfortunately, I cannot find it in the jumble of books on our many bookshelves (must straighten those out).

It was interesting to read how your mother rode to school. I think my mother and her siblings (they lived in Baylor County, Texas) were able to walk to their school, but it was very small and probably served just a few farms. I don't remember any bus service to my schools in Southern California or in Texas, either.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I have subscribed to your blog via Google Reader.

My husband's Midkiff ancestors settled for quite some time in Cooke and Gaines Counties in Texas after immigrating from Tennessee. They later went on to Oklahoma Territory, Colorado, California, Idaho, and eventually Washington, where we now live.
